Great book full of adventure

I finally had a chance to read new Jamie's book and it was amazing! My expectations were really high after reading The Boy Who Was Afraid of the World and I was not disappointed. It is full of adventure, fighting different kind of fears and what I value the most - honesty. I really enjoyed reading it and I definitely recommend this to anyone who believes or at least want to believe that the strong mind can help you face any kind of challenges...

Fantastic Story

Fantastic! Having read Jamie's first book, The Boy Who was Afraid of the World, I knew I was going to love this before I even started reading. I wasn't disappointed. There is adventure, laughs, highs and lows, good and bad times from start to finish. And as always the author tells the tale beautifully. An inspirational read which will leave you wanting to start your own adventure.

Great Ketogenic Recipe Book. Informative!

Oh wow! 120 recipes. This was my initial reaction when I opened this book. I was a bit skeptical about its contents, is this just another Kindle Ketogenic Diet recipe book that only collects a number of recipes online?

First and foremost, the book started out with a detailed explanation of what a Ketogenic Diet is about. This is a great way to introduce the diet to people who want to try it, I’m glad this book made sure that the readers will gain a better understanding of what they are getting themselves into; from the benefits, what to expect, to which foods to eat and avoid. I’ve learned so much about the right calorie intake I should take each day in order for this diet to work at its full potential.

For the recipes, the book contains a wide variety of foods to choose from. Complete with meat, vegetarian, seafood, breakfast, side dishes and even desserts. What I like about this book is that each recipe contains nutritional facts per serving and not all recipe books have this!. It’s really helpful so I can calculate and be aware of how much food intake I am getting daily.

I have already tried the Spicy Tuna and Quinoa Salad, Chicken Gumbo and Sesame Chicken with Broccoli. This was my favorite, I decide to post a picture of it (except I had no sesame seeds to hand at the time.. turned out ok though). I enjoyed all these recipes and can’t wait to try the others too!

Like all diet books, this book promises effective weight loss - if committed to following religiously. First, this book is informative. It laid out the basics of Ketogenic Diet and discussed the things you need to know before starting. If you are a beginner, then this will suit you well. And the 100 recipes included in this book lessen the burden of preparing a ketogenic-fit meal on your own. That's a lot of recipes to choose from. The ingredients are fairly easy to find at the grocery store or at the local market. Recipes are easy-to-prepare, and the procedures easy-to-follow. What I personally like about this book is that it depends on the amount of time you can allot for cooking, the recipes included prep and cooking time. It also includes the number of servings per meal. So you can choose from a vast number of recipes based upon your time allocation and the size of your family. Since we are talking about "diet" the book has Nutritional Facts added at the end of every recipe. So you'll know how much you are taking in.

I was looking for a good ketogenic recipe book and that’s why I purchased this book. This book has full feature of explaining what Ketogenic are all about and what can it do to our health and its benefits. This book is more than just a recipe book; it also breaks down the different types of food from proteins to vegetable, to dairy and spices. This book describes 120 delicious recipes. All the recipes I have tried so far have turned out amazing and my family is really impressed with them. This is definitely my top recipe book. This book is highly recommended. Thanks.

Historically Thought Provoking & Romantic...

Sam Starbuck has made history fun in this steamy interpretation of the downfall of Julius Caesar. With its insightful look into characters we only know by name he succeeds in drawing us into this world and feeling compassion for those put into an untenable position.

Where before we found Brutus a bloodthirsty traitor, we now see a conflicted soul. Conflicted as to his ongoing relationship with Cassius as well as being drawn into the assassination plot. We end up feeling sympathetic towards him and relish any moments of happiness he can find. He tries to be an honorable man but gets drawn into a plan that he finds lacks honor.

His relationship with Cassius is one that remains hidden from the public but gets the tacit okay from their wives. The encounters are playful yet sexy and you can sense all the weight of the world being lifted off him at these moments. Considering how happy he makes Brutus I wish Cassius came off as more likable. He gave the impression of being a jealous child constantly prodding at Brutus to do the bloody deed he's too weak to do. That's why it was nice that Brutus was able to draw comfort from the "transgender" Tiresias. Tiresias gives unwavering support to Brutus at a time when he's doubting everything and everyone. Considering the important part she/he plays in Brutus' life I wish we'd had more insight into the character.

The City War perfectly blends historical and emotional facets into an entertaining and satisfying history lesson. The many names dispersed throughout the story does become a bit overwhelming at times but the vivid and realistic imagery fully immerses the reader into this brief glimpse into Roman life. Sam Starbuck has created an emotional and thought provoking story and I'm greatly intrigued by what he'll create for us readers next.

Excellent LGBT historical novel

Roman Senator Marcus Brutus is a patriot, devoted to the Republic. Many of his days are spent actively working for the Republic, protecting the system he believes in. His main respite is the occasional trip to his country villa in the company of his dearest friend, and lover, Cassius. But his tireless work may not be enough, not when the consul Julius Caesar is taking more and more power to himself. When Cassius first proposes a drastic solution, Brutus rejects the idea, but as the months go by, it becomes ever more obvious that given enough time, Caesar will overthrow the Republic and make himself emperor.

I bought this because I love Sam's fanfic, and expected him to do a good job of original fiction drawing on historical fact. I wasn't disappointed. This is one of those novels where I think it can be enjoyed both by readers who know nothing about the historical characters, and by readers familiar with the historical story, or with Shakespeare's play. There's a solid story here that fleshes out the basic facts and brings Brutus to life as a real person, a decent, honorable man faced with a choice between evils. His decision is not a simple one, and is made over the course of months, as more and more evidence accumulates of what Rome's future could be if Caesar is not reined in.

And it's not just Brutus who's brought to life here. There's a good exploration of Cassius and his motives. In addition, there's a brief but lovely portrait of Brutus's wife Porcia, and a marriage that is a loving partnership and friendship, not just a useful front for a gay man. Along with the historical characters, there's original character Tiresius, a teenage runaway taken on by Brutus as a horseboy. Tiresius has secrets to hide, but as Brutus discovers more about the boy's troubled relationship with his father, it provides him with insight into his own troubled relationship with Caesar, a man who may or may not be his biological father. The interactions between the characters create a rich portrait of a situation where there is no easy right and wrong.

One of the problems with writing historical fiction is that historical people could have very different moral values and beliefs, often ones that don't sit well with a modern reader. In trying to make a lead character synpathetic, it's easy to slip into the trap of turning him or her into a twenty-first century person in fancy dress. This book does a superb job of presenting the characters in their proper context, with believable explanations for their attitudes and beliefs about various issues.

It's not a romance, because it follows Marcus Brutus and his relationships with Cassius and others in the months leading up to the assassination of Julius Caesar, and anyone who's familiar with either the history or Shakespeare's play will know that Things Do Not End Well for the conspirators. But well researched as far as I can tell, beautifully written, and I'd recommend it to someone looking for historical fiction with an LGBT theme.

Interesting take on a familiar event

Sam Starbuck is an excellent writer with a sensitive touch toward LBGT issues. In this novelette, Brutus and Cassius are lovers faced with Julius Caesar's growing threat to the authority of the Roman Senate. Cassius pushes for his assassination, while Brutus is reluctant to commit murder, even in the interest of Rome. We all know how it ends, but the real story here is the well-told account of the conflict Brutus experiences, and his anguished realization that Caesar must die.

An added complication is the growing relationship between Brutus and his loyal and loving transgendered young servant boy Teresias, who has his own complexities to handle.

Overall, the story is more political than sexual, and the encounters are not described in an overly graphic way, but people who are offended by gay relationships will not enjoy this. I did.

Art & History of wine in California

Two greats combine for this book. Fisher was ahead of her time in food. Max Yavno worked on the NYSE and has a degree in Economics Columbia. He became a photographer and is best known for his muscle beach picture. The story of wine in California correlates with the settlement of California. The photos document work in the manner the impressionists painted work. A very cheap way of viewing Yavno B&Ws and learning a little early California wine history (the book was written before the Central cost became a force). Beautiful! Cheers

Enjoyable historical romance novella

The Second Seduction of a Lady is a historical novella that introduces a new series by Miranda Neville, The Wild Quartet. Eleanor is a woman firmly "on the shelf" and against the institution of marriage. She occupies her time by visiting relatives and helping out her many cousins. While visiting one of these cousins, Eleanor runs into the man who managed to seduce her and use her years before. Max knew he made mistakes with Eleanor, but he has never gotten over her and he is determined to make the most of his second chance, which proves to be more difficult than he could have anticipated.

I really enjoyed Eleanor's character, I understood her negative feelings about marriage (even though I didn't necessarily agree) and I like that she is an independent woman. She manages to do what she pleases and still be part of society. Neither Eleanor or Max are high up in the Ton, they are people who are easy to relate to. Max proved to be very dedicated to winning Eleanor over and I always love it when a man has to work to win his lady.

The Second Seduction of a Lady is a quick read, but the antics of Eleanor's cousin and Max's attempts to win Eleanor are amusing and enjoyable to read. I did not have any issues with the story, but at the same time it did not amaze me. The story is simple, yet enjoyable and provides a nice prelude to an upcoming series. I enjoyed the writing, the characters, and the story and will likely read book 1 in The Wild Quartet Series, The Importance of Being Wicked, when it debuts in late November.

The Second Seduction of a Lady~

Eleanor Hardwick lives her life the way she wants and thanks to an inheritance from her late mother, she can. If she wants to spend money of fancy bonnets, she will. If she wants to travel, she can. Yet, being the only child of a recluse father is very lonely so her travels often involve visiting her relatives and trying to help in any way she can, welcome or not. Eleanor takes one of her young cousins, Caro, under her wing since her mother is dastardly but her life is thrown into upheaval upon a walk when Eleanor and Caro stumble upon a young man and his guardian. The guardian is Max Quinton, the man who broke her heart five years ago with a cruel bet. Max is delighted to see the only woman who has laid claim to his heart and he is determined to make rights with Eleanor once and for all so he sets about a slow seduction to win her back. Unfortunately, he causes more problems as he uses his charge's interest in Caro to gain information and when this comes to light, the damage is done all over for Eleanor. Will a chase to Gretna Green together be enough to prove that Eleanor is the only one for him?

This novella (which was about sixty percent of my file, the rest were excerpts) is the kickoff to Miranda Neville's upcoming new series and was an enjoyable tale. When Max broke her heart, it cemented her belief that marriage is not for her, especially after witnessing her joyful mother wilt under her fathers boring lifestyle. Now, at the tender age of 30 (I loved that she was a bit older than the norm!), she is determined to live a quiet life by herself and she plans to shove Max away. Max is charming and quiet in his seduction of Eleanor and she finally allows him to explain his side of the bet and together they make great stride to happiness only for it to seem to fall away again. I really enjoyed the secondary romance that also bloomed between Caro and Robert and as Caro is the heroine for the next book (The Importance of Being Wicked) it has made me very anxious as to what is next for her! However, since this novella was about Eleanor and Max, I did sort of feel Caro's problems overtook the storyline a bit and I would have liked a little more courtship between Eleanor and Max with just a bit more of their history. Even in this short novella it has what I expect from Miranda Neville, sharp dialogue, wit, charm, heat and a dash of action. A great kickoff to what is sure to be an amazing series! 3 1/2 stars

Nice love story segues into an introduction to the series. About a 3.3

I thought this a nice, well-balanced introduction to the series. It gave us a story of love renewed, and we met Caro, the heroine of The Importance of Being Wicked (The Wild Quartet Book 1), a novel I recommend. We saw her mother's reprehensible stifling of Caro, making Caro's rebellion inevitable. Interestingly, we also saw the seeds sown by Robert that would eventually cause great heartache for Caro.

The sweet, sometimes funny, love story of Max and Eleanor was a nice vehicle for this introduction, though it was a little slow in places.

I recommend reading this series in order for full understanding of the characters and their stories. I read #3 & #4 first. I think I would have gotten more from those novels had I read in order.

About the Author

Chunling Du received her B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from the Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China, in 1992, and 1995, respectively, and aPh.D degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2000. She is currently a senior researcher with Data Storage Institute, Singapore, where she is involved in modeling and advanced servo control of hard disk drives. Her research interests include high precision motion control, multidimensional systems, and structure health diagnosis using sensing network. She has published dozens of journal papers and the monograph H-infinity Filtering and Control of two-dimensional Systems with Professor Lihua Xie. Dr. Du is a senior member of IEEE.

Lihua Xie received his B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from Nanjing University of Science and Technology in 1983 and 1986, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Newcastle, Australia, in 1992. Since 1992, he has been with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where he is currently a professor and Director, Centre for Intelligent Machines. He concurrently holds Changjiang Professorship with the College of Automation, South China University of Technology.

Dr Xie’s research interests include robust control and estimation, networked control systems, time delay systems, control of disk drive systems and sensor networks. He has published over 170 journal papers and co-authored a number of books in his field. He is an Associate Editor of Automatica, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, the Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, and an associate editor-at-large of Journal of Control Theory and Applications, and is also a member of the editorial board of IET Proceedings on Control Theory and Applications. He served as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-II, International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems, and on the conference editorial board for the , IEEE Control Systems Society. Dr Xie is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of Institution of Engineers, Singapore.
