Good and Straight-Forward

This is a good book for an introductory level course/self-study program. It breaks down the terminology by body system (one body system per chapter), so you know what parts of the body to relate the terms to as you progress through the book. This book is nicely organized, easy to follow, and easy to understand. It is extremely helpful if you are entering the medical field. It has flashcards in the back of the book that help you test yourself, but they are not indispensable. You could make them yourself. It is by far one of the best introductory texts available.

This book is excellent for anyone not familiar with medical terminology class. The book includes a CD and flashcard in the back. I feel knowledgeable after reading the Chapter 1. It is worth the money.

I like the programmed style of this book. It makes reviewing medical terminology easy as each section deals with a different system so you can easily find the things you want to review or systematically read from front to back. The book was received in good condition and worked well for me.

The Swedish command were not unaccustomed to odds of this order: on countless occasions during the previous nine years, in battles raging across Denmark, Germany, Poland and the Baltic States and in Russia itself, they had faced similar or worse odds and invariably emerged victorious. Nor did the exhausted state of their troops, or their inferior firepower and faulty gunpowder, now prevent them from placing their trust in raw courage and cold steel, iron discipline, the inspiring presence of their king, and the benevolent hand of God. On this day however, God ceased to smile on Swedish arms. In a blow-by-blow analytical account of precisely what went wrong, this book brings the horror of 18th-century warfare to life: we smell the battlefield carnage, join the doomed men on their heroic final charge, and feel the agonies of the injured and the dying. A multitude of eye-witness accounts from letters, diaries and memoirs lets us hear the voices of those who were there. The central drama is underpinned by a profound understanding of the economic, political, social and military factors at play. At the end of the battle Czar Peter wrote that "the last stone in the foundations of St Petersburg has now been laid". Meanwhile, a Swedish host of 49,500, which had marched out for Moscow the preceding year, had virtually reduced to a shattered remnant of 1300, who had escaped death or capture by crossing the River Dnieper with their king. And although the indomnitable Charles continued to wage the Great Northern War against his increasingly triumphant enemy for another decade, the scars left in the Swedish psyche were such, that in terms of world history, in the author's words, Sweden "left the stage and took a seat among the spectators".

About the Author

Gebre Waddell is a noted mastering engineer and owner of Stonebridge Mastering. His 10-year career includes work with artists such as Public Enemy, Ministry, George Clinton, and Rick Ross. Waddell is a current member of the Grammy Recording Academy and the Audio Engineering Society. He has created many resources, including The Digital Publishing Standard for Audio Recordings and a popular spectrographic frequency chart titled “The Frequency Domain.” Most recently, Waddell has been working with DSP algorithm design and VST programming.

A must read for everyone interested in audio mastering

GREAT book, highly recommended for beginners as well as mastering and audio pros.
I have selected this book as no.1 resource on mastering conducting the mastering lessons of the audio engineering diploma at SAE Berlin. It will greatly help my students gain some understanding and in depth knowledge about the art and science of audio mastering.

Strong introduction and reference material for audio mastering

I'm a novice to music production. I'd heard of mastering and mixing, but wasn't entirely sure of much more than that. I was delighted to find that Complete Audio Mastering is both an accessible introduction to audio mastering and a solid discussion of professional mastering techniques.

The book starts from scratch, introducing the key concepts behind mastering - why it's a necessary part of an album's creation, and what's involved from beginning to end. From there, he outlines equipment, techniques, and tips for avoiding common mistakes. No two mastering engineers will master the same track the same way, so trying to create a step-by-step from process beginning to end is like trying to describe how to paint a portrait. Instead, the author lays out the tools and techniques of his profession and describes what does and doesn't work.

My favorite thing about the book is how much I learned about just listening to music. Volume is key; Mr. Waddell mentions that increasing the volume just a fraction can completely change a listener's appraisal of a piece, which is why maintaining strict control of volume is important in mastering, and why the Loudness Wars resulted in poor mastering practices.

One word of warning: I wouldn't expect a novice to instantly know how to master. There are technical details that will likely go above the head of a beginner; I'd suggest reading this as a textbook alongside a course or an internship (Gebre Waddell discusses several possible 'next steps' in chapter 15.) But even if you don't plan a career in mastering, Complete Audio Mastering is a fantastic guide to what goes behind the scenes after an album is mixed. Excellent book for intermediates and pros alike!

I am not a novice by any means but I will forever be a student at heart. I always like to read topics of interest, even if I am knowledgeable on the subject. I feel a good book keeps my skills sharp and/or there will be a few gems of information that I can fit into my artillery. Gebre Wadell's book "Complete Audio Mastering" is exactly this kind of a book! I find this book practical, direct, and well laid out. Highly recommended.

Teaming up against the odds, the two dodge the outlaws, narrowly escape drowning while crossing the Tennessee River, and stumble upon a group of army officers who are out to apprehend the terrorizing gangs. When the youngsters eventually reach Hannah's tribe, things do not calm down. Broad strokes of historical details enrich the story line. Zeb and Hannah are able to sustain themselves, and the plot, with their pluck and determination. Zeb's daredevil passion for horse racing will amuse readers. An author's note answers historical questions. The story ends abruptly with Hannah being reunited with her parents. The Devil's Highway

This book was really interesting to read. My eight year old son really enjoyed following what happened in each chapter. I am from Mississippi so it really showed me what could of happened in Natchez back long years ago. This is an Accelerated Reader and my son read it for AR points in school this year.

Zeb try's to find Zeb's grandpa on the Natchez trace

Dear Mr. Applegate,
Our class has just finished reading your book the Devil's Highway. It was a very exciting book.
My favorite scene in the whole book was when Zeb, Hannah, and Christmas all try to cross the river. I think if you had had Big Red and The Fiddler see them in the river and go in after them and try to catch them it would have been more exciting. Another of my favorite scenes in the book was when the sergeant shot off the gun to try to scare Harlequin so that Zeb would fall off.
I wish that you hadn't left the book off at them all being at Hannah's house. If the second book was already out, then it would have been all right. I don't like having to wait to find out what happens to Zeb and his Grandpa.
I think one of the most difficult things for Zeb and Hannah to do was to cross the river. Especially because Hannah didn't know how to swim. Something else that was probably difficult for Hannah was finding out that her family had moved to Washington. Finally something that was difficult for Zeb was letting Hannah come with him on his trip, knowing that he would run out of food and he would also have to make sure that she stayed safe.
I can't wait for the next book Natchez Under The Hill.

A unique and moving work

Fiona Tinker's book Pagan Portals: Pathworking Through Poetry is one of the most unique works I've read in quite awhile. As someone who reads a great number of Pagans books on a constant basis, I found it very refreshing to read something like this - something that has truly not been done before.

Tinker's book focuses on the work of three poets who found their home in the British Isles: MacLeod, Yeats, and O'Sullivan - all early contemporary Pagans of centuries past who found their place in the world through their moving spiritual poetry. Tinker guides us through some of their poems that we can use as a guide for deeper connection via the tool of pathworking - the ability to traverse the inner realms.

Through this book, I found myself intrigued by classical poetry in ways I never have before. The ways in which Tinker weaves the work into the goal of deeper self-knowledge and spiritual revelation is revolutionary. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to ignite the flames of the poet within. This is a book for all those who wish to look to the great creative works of the past in the hope for greater connection to the present self.

Poetry Between the Worlds

An excellent and practical guide to Celtic pathwork, ie meditation and interaction with the Fey. Yeats is one of my favorite poets. Use of his poems in this volume is a big plus for me. I have always believed that we are meant to speak directly with the spirits. Fiona Tinker does too. She blends literature and spirituality as they are meant to be. I highly recommend this book and will use it in my classes.
